Below are just a few examples of our probate success stories.
Completed a Probate Under a Time Crunch
A woman reached out to us for help with the pending sale of a vacant lot owned by her mother. The woman’s mother had previously signed a durable power of attorney authorizing the woman to act on her behalf, and the woman had invoked that authority to sell the lot. Unfortunately, before the sale could go through, the woman’s mother passed away. This left the woman in a time crunch, since she needed to administer her mother’s estate before the closing date—otherwise, she would risk losing the buyer. We were able to get the order that the woman needed in record time, allowing her to proceed with the sale.
Helped a Client Take Possession of a Considerable Sum of Money
A woman came to us for help with a probate, explaining that while she had thought her father’s affairs were in order after he passed away several years earlier, that actually wasn’t the case. The woman had recently been contacted by a representative of a financial institution, who advised her that her father had a 401(k) retirement account in the amount of $100,000, and that the account hadn’t been distributed after his passing since it didn’t include a beneficiary designation. We were able to promptly obtain a court order directing that the account be distributed to the woman.
Expedited a Probate Under Tragic Circumstances
Our team was originally hired to handle a real estate closing for a residential property. Sadly, on the morning of the closing, the seller’s son called us and let us know that his mother had passed away in the middle of the night, which in turn made it impossible to move forward with the sale as planned. The buyers were understandably worried, since they had already sold their previous house, packed up their belongings, and loaded them into a moving truck, which was waiting in our parking lot.
Although the seller’s son was grieving his mother’s passing, he also felt terrible for the buyers, and he retained our office to administer his mother’s estate. We filed the probate as quickly as possible and had an order entered within just a couple weeks, which made it possible for the son to sell his late mother’s home to the buyers as originally intended.
